Responsibilities:
Oversees and lead the design, implementation, and documentation of components and products for the SPSS product suite
Manage a diverse group of Software Engineers, UI Designers, and Technical Writers; provide guidance and direction to reports
Manage overall software design and development activities for the organization, including functional design, software engineering, publications, user interface, and internationalization.
Work with Product Planning, Product Strategy and Management, QA, and other R&D staff to develop product strategy
Provide leadership in the design and development of related products.
Coordinate worldwide development offices for delivery of dependent components
Translate corporate objectives into team and individual objectives
Establish goals and objectives for measurement of the group
Manage design and software development projects of varying sizes.
Facilitate communication upward and across project team including project status, justifications for variances and technical information
Serve as focal point for other groups on project status or other project information
Establish and maintain effective communication with executives and managers to ensure proper sensitivity to the needs of software development personnel
Ensure software projects are completed on time, according to product specifications
Manage personnel activities of staff (i.e., hire, train, appraise, reward, discipline, etc.)
Collaborate with other managers, senior management, and extended staff
Ensure appropriate resources are identified, hired, and retained
Affect a positive and motivational atmosphere among R&D staff
Encourage and participate in continuous improvement
Job Requirements (skills/experiences/Qualifications)
SPSS - Development Manager for Data Collection product (Xi'an/CDL)
Education and Work Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Science, Business, Software Engineering or Computer Science; advanced degree desirable
5 years or more of significant demonstrated project management experience in a software product development environment
A proven track record of successfully delivering software products
A proven track record coordinating and motivating technical professionals
Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
Proven experience in leading software product development projects
Excellent knowledge of company's software development procedures
Knowledge of SDLC process, such as RUP.
Knowledge of Java, J2EE, OOAD, and enterprise applications
Excellent time management, communications, decision making, presentation, human relations and organization skills
Understanding of quality engineering techniques and documentation standards
Demonstrated eagerness to solicit ideas and assimilate them
Able to resolve problems in a timely manner
Proven strong business acumen, problem solving ability, and attention to detail
