Purpose of the job
The engineering director will manage the Engineering Department in China, consisting of Product Engineering (hardware & fabric) , Testing, Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering. The Engineering Department delivers the technical specialists who work in teams to do the final NPD stages (or product changes) and hand over all specifications and tooling to operations, ready for production. The Engineering Director will work closely together with Engineering NL, Project management, Sourcing, Quality and Operations. The Engineering Director reports to Managing Director of Asia Operations.
Tasks & responsibilities
1. Develop Asia engineering roadmap to support corporate product development and quality objectives
2. Allocate engineering resources to NPD projects and Operation
3. Quality and work standards of NPD and Product Maintenance Asia:
o Completion of product development and product definition based on prototypes from Engineering NL.
o Configuration Management
o Testing , Optimization and Validation of new products
o Quality Assurance of Engineering process
o Specification of tooling for parts and assembly
o Process sheets, Optimization of Assembly line
Background & job requirements
Education
-University Degree in engineering or equivalent, master degree in management is a plus
Experience
1. Managing engineering function independently in a ODM manufacturing environment
2. Managing diverse technical departments with proven accomplishments
3. Working in a multi-project matrix organization
4. Change management
5. Cooperation between Western and Asian teams: the successful candidate should for instance be a European with management experience in China or a Chinese who was trained or educated in Europe or the US.
