These projects range from Crossrail in London, East London Line, Victoria Station Upgrade, Budapest Metro, Dublin Interconnectot, TfL tunnels refurbishment amongst numerous others.
Ensuring we continue our delivery to regional clients, there is a requirement for a Senior Geotechnical Design Engineer to join our growing team to be based in Hong Kong. The role will be a challenging and equally rewarding position presenting an excellent opportunity to contribute and grow new business operations and opportunities with Mott MacDonald strategic developments.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The role offers excellent career opportunities to work with a wide range of global clients on some multi-disciplinary, key major projects. This role offers the opportunity for you to broaden your experience, skills capability and project responsibilities.
Day-to-day responsibilities will include but not exclusive to:
• Responsible for the production of design solutions and drawings, covering a range of project requirements from new build to modification, maintenance, refurbishment, foundation design and coordinating civil or structural engineering with geotechnical assessment.
• Responsible or manage multi-disciplinary projects and coordinate with other engineering disciplines including, structural, tunnel, maritime or bridge engineers.
• Ensure rock slope stability, excavatability and earthworks material acceptability assessments are collated to project dictates,
• Potential site investigations and supervision interpreting ground investigations; geological and geomorphological mapping; detailed soil and rock logging, ground work investigations and earthworks construction and contaminated land risk assessment.
• Construction supervision for geotechnical works including large scale earthworks, piling, soil nailing, rock bolting, and tunnelling
• Ensuring the geotechnical aspects of the design are correctly implemented including geo-environmental desk study reports in order to identify potential geotechnical hazards
• Interpretation and verification of ground investigation data and parameters building up a ground model to assist in the tender design
• Supporting colleagues or directly managing project scoping, design, contractual or financial management.
• Supporting or leading on pre-quals, tenders or project bids.
• Responding to the contractors needs with respect to geotechnical queries and constructability/programme driven design changes.
• Become integral to the division’s operations and contribute to the business and graduate/junior colleagues and team’s technical development.
• Contribute to risk assessment and specification document.
CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION
Applicants should have a depth of technical expertise in Geotechnical engineering ideally from working in an engineering consultancy. Exposure to a range of project dynamics, sizes and progressive input and influence gained over a professional career, likely to be gained over a 10-15 years+
Successful Candidates are likely to have the following characteristics:
• Strong academics, engineering degree qualified (or equivalent). Additional qualifications such as MSc, MEng or MA are benefical but not essential.
• Chartered/Professional engineer is essential for any candidate to be considered
• Project management, proven capability to deliver to deadline and team leadership/develop capabilities are essential to be successful in this role.
• Capable of operating as technical lead as well as team member as scope and range of project interaction alters accordingly.
• Experience of working on multiple concurrent commissions, and representing the company to clients
• Experience of site investigations and supervision including geo-environmental desk study reports in order to identify potential geotechnical hazards
• Ideally experience establishing project scoping, design, contractual or financial management.
• Experience of working with a range of project stakeholders, contractors and clients.
• Be innovative looking to develop their technical and management skills and the willingness to tackle any challenge
• Willing to develop technical skills and career experience working on multi-disciplinary, profile projects always demanding effective technical delivery.
